Back in January, I began a new journey and petitioned Harrison, TN Lodge No. 114 F&AM for membership. It just feels like I should be more of service to people. I’ve know of the Masons and their service and have for many years. Being way past due, in making something of myself in a capacity outside of family and work, it is time.

In the last few months, I have become more involved in Kappa Sigma and mentoring those college boys. I just missed the fraternal companionship. I went on a trip with some of my Brothers and had the best time I have had in a while. I think that may be when my decision about Freemasonry was solidified.

I first learned about them when I was in college and discovered that the man most responsible for the Kappa Sigma ritual was a 32 degree Scottish Rite Mason. That being said, I am familiar with the fraternal process. From what I have learned, so far, I don’t expect Freemasonry to be much different.

Even though I may be familiar with the drill… I think… it doesn’t take away from the excitement. I have discovered that many of my friends at work are Masons and have found that many of them will be coming to the ceremony of my first degree. THAT is the fraternity I have missed. I’ve been friends with many of these guys for years. I didn’t know they were Masons. When they found out I was becoming one, without skipping a beat, they said they would be there. It warmed my heart.

Harrison No. 114 F&AM, chartered in 1846, was the first lodge in Hamilton County, TN at a time when Harrison, TN was the county seat of Hamilton County. The lodge is known for its ritual performance, so I can only look forward to a great experience for my EA degree. What might be icing on the cake is that my dad will be able to attend since he has also earned his first degree… August 28, 1979. I was five. 🙂 April 1, 2016 can’t come soon enough.
